Gimmicks would help to no one By: Naim Naqvi | 08-Jul-2010 Reply | Forward Let the Congress Party understand that it can’t win the elections on the wings of frightful memories. What had happened in Gujarat would haunt the memories of every Indian with a conscience till Naredra Modi flaunts his diabolic presence in the political sky of Gujarat. However, Modi had failed to win the voters for BJP outside Gujarat in past and the photos of victims of those riots can’t give the victory on platter to Congress. Granted that Nitish Kumar is in cahoots with bad people yet he had done a lot of good work and proved that often you can turn an ugly situation into a brighter one if you play your cards properly. I’m not a supporter of Nitish Kumar but I know he has put Bihar back on the economic map of India. He will get credit for his good work. Congress should engage its cadres in positive and purposeful endeavors instead of gimmicks if it wants to win. In the back-drop of rising prices, anarchy and increasing chasm between rich and poor Congress can’t win anywhere.
India’s two remaining pillars of democracy, free press and Judiciary are no more independent! By: Raman | 08-Jul-2010 Reply | Forward On one hand PM MM Singh is asking people to forget 1982 Sikh riots for faster healing of community’s anguish but at the same time Congress is stoking communal flames by repeatedly using Gujrat riots to garner votes. In this case using a photograph of a hapless individual who since returned to Gujrat to lead a peaceful life after rejecting CPM/WB offer to settle him away from Gujrat. The biggest concern is the media instead of questioning this double speak of congress generally joins congress in its political crimes. I have yet to see a strong editorial from any of English language media questioning congress’s communal vote bank policies and its misuse of CBI to protest/punish corrupt politicians and swindling of billions of dollors by UPA politicians like Pawar/Raja/Karunanidhi/Jarkhand politicians etc.. That is the tragedy.. the two remaining pillars of democracy Judiciary and free press also are crumbling in India. It is not a good sign, all can be bought by money/postions/awards.

The Congress may use a riot victim Quttubuddin Ansari’s photograh in which he was shown to be begging with the rioters to spare his life during 2002 Godhra riots in Gujarat “in order to expose” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s secular image during the assembly polls in Bihar.
The state unit party leadership has hit upon the idea to use the Gujarat riots victim’s photograph an a poll material to “tear apart Kumar’s secular credentials” vis-a-vis his association with the BJP of which Modi has a mascot, the Congress Chief Spokesperson Prem Chandra Mishra said here.
“We have written to the Congress high command explaining justification of use of Ansari’s photograph as a poll material in Bihar,” he said.
The high command’s decision in this regard was awaited, Mishra said, adding that the said photograph will prove to be an useful poll material, particularly among the minority community, to expose the senior JD(U) leader’s secular credentials, the Congress leader said.
The Congress will also tell the electorate that Kumar, who was then an Union Minister in the NDA government at the Centre, had not uttered a single word on the Gujarat riots, he said.
